Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS)

Location: Tulsa, OK
Job Type: Part-time
Reports to: Program Director


Position Summary:

The Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS) plays a vital role in supporting residents through recovery, accountability, and personal growth within Thrive Transitional Housing. This position provides peer-based support, encouragement, advocacy, and guidance to individuals navigating recovery and reentry. The PRSS works closely with residents to help them build healthy coping skills, maintain program compliance, connect with community resources, and work toward long-term stability and independence.


The ideal candidate is compassionate, dependable, trauma-informed, and able to maintain professional boundaries while creating meaningful connections with residents.


Key Responsibilities:


Resident Support & Recovery Services:

  • Provide peer support and encouragement to residents in recovery.
  • Assist residents with developing recovery-focused goals and healthy coping skills.
  • Conduct regular resident check-ins to assess emotional well-being, recovery progress, and barriers to success.
  • Encourage participation in recovery meetings, outpatient treatment, employment, and program requirements.
  • Provide crisis support and de-escalation when appropriate while reporting serious concerns to management.
  • Promote accountability, structure, and positive peer relationships within the home environment.
  • Assist residents with accessing community resources such as transportation, food assistance, employment services, identification documents, and healthcare services.
  • Maintain a trauma-informed and person-centered approach in all interactions.


Program Compliance & Documentation:

  • Assist with monitoring compliance with house rules, curfews, and recovery expectations.
  • Document resident interactions, progress notes, incident reports, and referrals accurately and professionally.
  • Report policy violations, safety concerns, or behavioral concerns to the Program Director.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, case managers, probation officers, and external providers when necessary.


House & Community Engagement:

  • Conduct routine house check-ins and support a positive living environment.
  • Encourage cleanliness, accountability, and respect within shared living spaces.
  • Support residents during move-ins, orientations, and transitions within the program.
  • Assist with group activities, recovery-focused discussions, and community-building efforts.


Qualifications & Skills:

  • Current Oklahoma PRSS certification required or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Reliable transportation required for travel between housing locations.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals experiencing substance use, mental health, trauma, and justice involvement.
  • Understanding of recovery principles, trauma-informed care, and harm reduction approaches.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries while remaining supportive and compassionate.
  • Organized, dependable, and capable of maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Basic technology skills for communication, reporting, and record-keeping.
  • Must pass a background check and be comfortable working in structured recovery housing environments.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Lived experience in recovery.
  • Experience working in sober living, behavioral health, crisis intervention, reentry, or social services preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Knowledge of local recovery and community resources.


Work Environment & Schedule:

  • Flexible schedule – may require evenings, weekends, and on-call availability as needed.
  • On-site resident interaction required at housing locations.
  • Combination of field-based support, resident engagement, and administrative documentation.
